At Bedonwell, we love learning about Geography! We believe the teaching of Geography develops children’s ability to ask and answer questions about the world in which they live.

Geography helps children to make sense of the world in which they live by learning about the human, physical and environmental aspects.  We follow the National Curriculum for pupils in years 1 and 2.

Children in Nursery and Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and are taught about Geography  through the ‘Understanding the World’ aspect within the 'People and Communities' area.  This involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.

We aim to:

  • provide children with an understanding of the human, physical and environmental aspects of Georgraphy
  • Develop Geogrpahic skills such as using maps, enquiry and exploration
  • inspire children to find out more about the world they live in, and
  • develop their sense of curiosity and identity

We do this by teaching Geogrpahy though our topics and cross-curricular ‘Explorer Time’. We take an enquiry-based approach to learning and children learn about a diverse range of exciting topics, ranging from the local area to places far away.
